News – Solar discount scheme 2011

REP’s latest solar PV panels project is officially under way after the participants decided to go ahead with last year’s installer. News – Members obtain thermal images

The Reading Borough based contingent among the 20 local households who signed up to participate in Reading Energy Pioneers are looking forward to receiving a thermal image of their home.

As part of the Heatseekers heat loss awareness scheme, part-funded by the Council, the fronts of most residents’ houses were thermally imaged during Winter 08/09. REP has joined up with the Council to obtain the images on behalf of its member households.

The images, which show what parts of the house most heat is escaping from, are a useful basis for REP to start identifying options for wall or roof insulation, eaves, windows, and doors.

News – REP kicks off

Did you know that the average house loses 25% of its heat through the roof, 35% through the walls & 15% through draughts and that Reading homeowners can get partial or full grants for insulating loft and walls – even solid walls?

The introductory events organised by Reading Energy Pioneers got under way on 10th February 2009 with the first event being held in Coley. Local sustainable energy installers talked to interested locals about measures such as thermal images of heat loss, solar panels and wood burning stoves. Homeowners should win by keeping the heat they pay for where they want it – in their homes, local businesses win by getting extra customers, and everyone wins by the reduction in fossil fuel use.

To find out more of what you can do, go to Contact Us or come to one of our forthcoming events.
